Exhibits

Curating and maintaining the stories that shape the history of our valley is one of the main functions that the museum serves for the community.  Exhibits are a vital component of sharing the knowledge and pieces from our collections to museum visitors.

Volunteer & Internships

Volunteer and become part of the museum family while sharing stories, preserving history and being an important resource to the community. Volunteers are crucial to Crested Butte Museum’s mission and work. Their skills, generosity and passion for history and community make the museum a richer and more responsive institution.

In return for their service, active volunteers receive great benefits including free admission to the museum,  20% off at the Museum store, learning opportunities and invitations to special events.

Volunteer Opportunities

Become a Docent (June-Sept)

Docents have a wealth of knowledge and experience that enriches every visitors’ experience. Sharing those stories makes each visit special and unique while helping people connect with the town, the museum and its mission. Docents greet visitors to the museum and share information about the community and our history. Docents help us get through the busy summer season during the busiest parts of the day. This is a great opportunity to meet new people while getting to share local history.

Assist with the Collections (Year Round)

The museum receives an average of 1,000 items into the collections every year. To keep up with the amazing collections coming into our care, we need volunteers to help us catalog and inventory these items. Collections volunteers are trained to use our cataloging system and how to handle artifacts. If you like to be up close to history, this is the volunteer job for you!

The museum hosts many fun events throughout the year including the annual Black & White Ball, Historic Pub Crawls, Santa Night, Movie Nights, and speaker presentations. We are always in need of event support and greatly appreciate folks who like to have a good time while supporting their community.
