Take a Stroll Through Time

Crested Butte became a registered National Historic District in 1974 to preserve our distinctive buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Join us on an Elk Avenue Walking Tour to learn about the history of the buildings, mining history, and stories from the community.

Our regularly scheduled Elk Avenue Walking Tours will resume in June 2024 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00am – 11:30am that meet at the Museum at 4th and Elk Avenue. Tours cost $20 (members) and $25 (non-members). Our themed walking tours will return every fourth Saturday of the month starting in June.

We occasionally host themed walking tours that focus on a certain area of town or a specific subject relating to Crested Butte’s history.  Some themed tours we’ve hosted in the past are the railroad history walking tour, the history of second street, and ranching history in Crested Butte.  Follow us on Facebook or sign-up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page to be notified about the next themed walking tour.

Summer 2024 Themed Tours:
June 22, 2024: Mountain Biking
July 27, 2024: Second Street
August 24, 2024: Alleys of Crested Butte
September 28, 2024: Crested Butte Ghosts

We offer private walking tours outside of these regularly scheduled times for $25 per person, at a minimum of 3 people or $75 per tour.  Ask about our non-profit tour rates. Call the museum at (970) 349-1880 or email [email protected] to schedule a private tour.
