Take a Stroll Through Time
Crested Butte became a registered National Historic District in 1974 to preserve our distinctive buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Join us on an Elk Avenue Walking Tour to learn about the history of the buildings, mining history, and stories from the community.
Our regularly scheduled Elk Avenue Walking Tours will resume in March 2025 on Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 3:30pm that meet at the Museum at 4th and Elk Avenue. Tours cost $20 (members) and $25 (non-members).
We occasionally host themed walking tours that focus on a certain area of town or a specific subject relating to Crested Butte’s history. Some themed tours we’ve hosted in the past are the railroad history walking tour, the history of second street, and ranching history in Crested Butte. Follow us on Facebook or sign-up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page to be notified about the next themed walking tour.
We offer private walking tours outside of these regularly scheduled times for $25 per person, at a minimum of 3 people or $75 per tour. Ask about our non-profit tour rates. Call the museum at (970) 349-1880 or email [email protected] to schedule a private tour.
