Apres Ski: History of Skiing

Join Colorado Historian Dr. Duane Vandenbusche at the Elevation Hotel for this exciting presentation about the history of skiing.
Explore the history of skiing in the Gunnison Valley with archival images and stories from the 11 lift-assisted ski resorts that have operated here from 1880 to the present including 4 ski areas in and around Crested Butte (the Pershing Mine Ski Hill, Rozman Hill, and Pioneer, which had the first chair lift in Colorado, and of course, the Crested Butte ski area).
Learn about the early mail men who carried the mail on skis, including Al Johnson and Alex Parent and the amazing skiing feats of the gelande jumpers of Crested Butte. Duane came to the Gunnison Valley to teach history at Western in 1962 and has authored nearly a dozen books.
