Preservation Month Celebrations & Specials
Throughout the Month of May we will have a variety of events & specials to celebrate Preservation Month!
Museums and cultural institutions need your support now more than ever! A membership is a great way to support the preservation of our local history, cultures, and traditions. To show our thanks, we’re giving away supporter gifts to anyone who becomes a new member or renews a membership during May’s Preservation Month!
Events
Historic Architecture Walking Tours
Fridays in May
11:00am – 12:30pm
Stroll down Elk Avenue with the Crested Butte Museum’s staff and learn about some of the first buildings built on the main street of Crested Butte, including discussions of form, function and architectural details of the late 1800 vernacular with a different special guest from the community joining each week.
$10 for Museum Members (monthly store special)
$25 for non-members.
Preservation Month
FREE Open House
Friday, May 30th
5:00pm – 7:00pm
Join the Museum and Town of Crested Butte for a celebration of our historic places and their continued preservation! Learn about the Crested Butte Historic District and the stories local historic buildings can tell, including the ongoing work of preserving Tony’s Conoco at 331 Elk. Snacks and refreshments will be served at this FREE community event!

Early Bird Membership Special
The first 10 members to sign up or renew at any level in May will receive a free CB Museum 5-panel hat, Beanie, or Water Bottle in addition to receiveing the benefits of our May Membership Special! The first 5 members to sign up or renew at any Pot Belly level will also receive a free CB Museum and Hardware Hoodie!
May Membership Special
Any member signing up or renewing in May can visit the gift shop to pick up a free copy of Kelsey Wirth’s Reflections on a Western Town: An Oral History of Crested Butte and a private invitation to our June Book Club! Members also receive additional discounts in May: Friday’s Architectural Walking Tours are available to all members for only $10! Current members also receive a free Tony’s “Crested Butte Original” poster when they check in for our Preservation Month Open House on Friday, May 30th.
Potbelly Membership Special
Any Pot Belly member signing up or renewing in May can visit the gift shop to pick up a free CB Museum supporter lunchbox! In 2025, all new Glow and Ember level members receive a free private dinner in the museum for 8 people! All current Pot Belly members will also receive an invitation for a private tour of the museum with the Director and an exclusive happy hour meet and greet with Dr. Duane Vandenbusche on Friday June 6th before his Lost Worlds of Blue Mesa lecture and slideshow (offered in person and via Zoom).
