Counterculture Panel: Conservation @ Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum
Jan 29 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Counterculture Panel: Conservation @ Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum | Crested Butte | Colorado | United States

Over the winter, the Museum is hosting a series of panels exploring the 1970s and the decisions that were made in this decade that continues to influence the development of this mountain town today.

Crested Butte in the 1970s laid the framework for the community we know today. In this decade, there was an explosion of creativity, a proliferation of new activities and sports, and a political takeover. This was a riotous time, establishing some of our most loved traditions and sense of community character.

Join the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum Wednesday, January 29th at 7pm to explore conservation efforts of the ‘70s and beyond through discussion and storytelling. A panel of guests who made hard decisions and worked to protect our landscape will share their experiences in conservation work. This conservation panel includes Jim Starr, Polly Oberosler, Sandy Allen Leinsdorf, and Glo Cunningham.

We invite those who also share in these memories to come and join the conversation to share stories of your own. The Museum encourages the audience to come with questions and stories to help us truly understand how the 1970s laid the foundation for the community we know today. This is a FREE event.

Counterculture Panel: Political Culture @ The CB Mtn. Heritage Museum
Feb 26 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Counterculture Panel: Political Culture @ The CB Mtn. Heritage Museum | Crested Butte | Colorado | United States

The Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum invites you to continue the conversation. Over the winter, the Museum is hosting a series of panels exploring the 1970s and the decisions that were made in this decade that continue to influence the development of this mountain town today.

Crested Butte in the 1970s laid the framework for the community we know today. In this decade, there was an explosion of creativity, proliferation of new activities and sports, and a political takeover. This was a riotous time, establishing some of our most loved traditions and sense of community character.

Join the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum, Wednesday February 26th, at 7 pm to discuss and explore the political climate of the '70s. In this decade, Crested Butte became a National Historic District, a fire protection district was established, AMAX came to town, and the "old timers" were kicked off town council. Change was in the air and Crested Butte went full steam ahead.

Learn how the political decisions of the 1970s continues to impact the community today. Panelists include: Bill Crank who served as mayor in the 1972 town council takeover; Roger Kahn who also sat on the 1972 town council; David Leinsdorf who served as county commissioner in the 1970s; and Bruce Baumgertner of BKR Associates who laid the groundwork for town planning and the future of Crested Butte.

Audience is encouraged to participate by bringing questions for the panelists and stories to share about this influential decade.
