The holidays are often a time for sharing and giving. Along with his unwavering kindness, Tony Mihelich would take the time to share knowledge, stories, and even lollipops to the local kids.

tonyFor decades Tony’s Conoco was a gathering place whether on the outside benches or around the pot belly stove. His generosity extended throughout the town from accepting mail and phone messages for Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) to hosting the daily “old timers” social gatherings in the Conoco. Tony was a loyal member of the community and turned the Conoco into more than just a place to get gas and a fishing license.

Now, it’s time to help Tony’s Conoco continue to welcome all for years to come. Over a century of weathering has taken a toll on the building. Our Preserve Tony’s Holiday Drive is your way to give back and help not only preserve the building but the spirit and honoring of Tony.

Phase I of the much needed building rehabilitation project has been completed thanks to a generous grant from the History Colorado-State Historical Fund and fabulous donors, such as yourself. It included energy efficiency improvements such as fresh insulation and new furnaces, as well as a beautiful new roof and creating a safer entryway.

But the Work Isn’t Done Yet!

Phase II will help make the building structurally sound and safe. The second, and final, phase includes the following rehabilitation projects:

  • The rotting exterior west wall
  • Exterior windows and doors
  • Hardboard panels on one damaged interior wall
  • Sections of the interior flooring

It will also include some electrical and mechanical upgrades and the creation of a building maintenance plan to further help preserve our home in the future.

This Holiday Season you can be a part of restoring a special part of Crested Butte’s past for future visitors. You can either make a donation of your chosen amount here: Donate Now

Or make a donation while you’re visiting the store during your holiday shopping. Any amount helps and is welcomed. It can be as simple as rounding the total up to the nearest dollar. Turn it into a gift by donating in someone’s honor.

You may choose to have your donation be accompanied by your name, or your honorary’s name adorning The Museum’s Preserve Tony’s Giving Tree for the season.

All of us at The Museum greatly appreciate the continued support from the community and beyond and wish everyone a happy, bright and hopeful holiday season.

Together, we can make the past a living part of the future.
